When you’re ready for some turf to accompany the South Jetty surf, head up the hill a bit to find inventive barbecue at the Wilds. Located near the trailheads at Wilder Corner, just across the highway from South Beach State Park, the restaurant serves a menu based on house-smoked meats. Owners Dave and Jill Redlich aren’t loyal to one textbook barbecue style.

Found just a half mile from the beach and surrounded by towering pines, The Wilds Tap House & BBQ is where Southern-style barbecue meets the rugged charm of the Oregon Coast. It’s off the beaten path (up the hill and across the bridge in Newport’s South Beach neighborhood), but it’s well worth the detour.
